The fight in this race, with the two faster Williams-Renaults of Mansell and Patrese, hounding Senna’s McLaren-Honda, was mirrored, 20 years later, with the McLaren-Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Button hounding Schumacher’s works Mercedes.
The similarities continued, with the supposed better overtaker(Mansell and Hamilton) failing initially to pass Schumacher and Senna respectively.
Both wore down their prey’s tyres sufficiently so, that when their teammate passed them, the job of overtaking was made simpler.
